The Graduation!

We can’t believe that we are at the end of another school year! Yesterday we celebrated the success of our N4 children who will be moving up to Primary 1 in August. They looked very smart and grown up in their caps and gowns!  We are so proud of all of the children and look forward to seeing our N3 children returning next term as our big boys and girls!

We hope you all have a lovely safe and happy summer holidays and wish everyone well.

Busy Few Weeks

Hello everyone, we have had a busy time the past couple of weeks, we have visited Farr Woods and we have had our sports.

First a big thank-you to everyone who helped out with the trip to Farr it wouldn’t have been possible without you.

Also it was good to see so many people cheering on the children yesterday at the sports, and those who participated in the big peoples races Well Done!!!!!!

Here are a few photos from the above activities                                                                                           Farr Woods

Sports Day

Another Busy Week!

A short but busy time again this week. The Sunshine room have been learning about plant growth and have been charting the progress of their seedlings! We had a great morning with our P6 buddies and look forward to more time with them next week.

The Rainbow room children have been learning about mini beasts and next week they will be investigating worms. The sun finally came out today and we had a lovely day learning outdoors. We were lucky to have a visit from Charlie a coach at Ross County and he brought their big cup to show us. We all had a touch so it needed a polish when he left!

N4 children will be having more transition visits to P1 next week.

Our Latest Learning!

What a week! The Sunshine room have continued their learning about growing plants and on Tuesday we were very lucky to be able to visit Dobbies to see a real garden centre.

We must say a big thank you to all of the staff and Bruce the manager for making us so welcome and providing a really yummy snack for us! A big thank you too to the parents and grandparents who came to help us. We had a great time looking at all the different plants and flowers and the gardening equipment.  We have been learning how to keep ourselves safe outdoors and we put this into use when we crossed the roads and when we were in the shop.  Dobbies have told us that they run a mini gardening club for children on Sundays and they can provide details about it.We have all been learning about money in the sunshine room and we used some money to pay for seeds in Dobbies. We have been learning how to recognise different coins. The Rainbow room children have been learning about bugs and mini beasts and have been digging for worms. This week was the long awaited wedding cremony.  The bride and bridesmaids were beautiful and the groom and his groomsmen were very smart.  The wedding went without a hitch and the reception was enjoyed by all.  Dont forget that we are on holiday on Monday 2nd May and not open due to the polling day on Thursday .

Have a great weekend,

Welcome back.

We hope that you have all had a lovely spring break. It is lovely to see all the children back and they have settled back really well. This term will be a busy term preparing those heading to school after the Summer for P1. We will be starting buddy visits where P6 children will be buddied up with those going to P1 after summer. Transition visits  will also continue throughout this term. Those older children will also continue with visits to the playground at break times to get use to break time.

At the end of last term Sunshine room had begun to learn about spring. This will continue on this week where we will be learning about spring time, signs of spring and baby animals.

Lots of excitement in Rainbow room this week as they are planning a wedding (just pretend). They have been busy making flowers and decorations for the big day. The children are very interested in this and it is fresh in many of their minds as many have been to weddings recently. They are also continuing to look at spring.

Hello again from the Childcare team at Inshes.  We have begun a very busy time with our transitional visit to Primary 1 for our N4 children, which proved to be highly successful.  All the children were very positive about how much they enjoyed their time in “big school”.   “Mrs Amphlett read a story about a dog” Ruwan commented. “I played in the sand.  I was very good in P1” said Calum.  Transition will continue  until the summer holidays.

In Sunshine Room morning session we are continuing to experiment with different materials.  We had great fun last week defying nature by watching water react to having oxygen removed from it…ask your child what happened?

Rainbow Room are concluding their project about airports and will spend the week reviewing what they have learned.

We also have parents nights coming up and are all looking forward to meeting up with you all for that.

This is our week!

We are having a very busy week.  Some of the children have been on trips to see the construction site at the bottom of the road.  We spoke to some of the builders, took some photos and had a good look about.  We have noticed that the old Blockbuster builder has been demolished.  The children have been learning what the word demolished means and also have been learning about other “big” words like construction, waterproof and transparent.  Ask about this at home.  Daisy said “demolition means knocking something down.”   Maisie said “on a building site you have to wear a hat and uniform to keep your clothes clean.  The hat stops your head getting sore if things fall on you.”

Through creative play the children have been exploring different types of materials and finding out what they can be used for.  While building with the lego Taylor said “lego is hard, I can build with it.  I can’t build with something soft it would fall down.”  Emily said “My jacket is waterproof.  I wore a jacket when I went to the building site … it kept me warm and dry.”

In the Sunshine room the children have decided to change the role play corner into an Estate Agents while they continue to learn about different types of houses.  We have been excited exploring this and playing the part of being an estate agent/customers.

The Rainbow Room children are still very interested vehicles and this week have been looking at different types of construction vehicles.  They saw some in action at the construction site.  During a visit to the site Flynn spotted diggers, tractors and on route to the site saw a police van, a dustbin lorry and other lorries as well.

We have been very busy again this week. We have been continuing our learning about houses. We have looked at what our address is and why it is important. The postman would not know where to deliver our birthday cards and presents without it! We have also become aware that not all buildings are houses, buildings have different uses. They can be shops, schools and places to play!

The construction site around the old Blockbuster building has caused a great deal of interest, tying in with this a parent came to talk to us about her job on a building site. The children have been talking about staying safe; wearing hard hats, high visibility vests and big boots. We are planning to make regular visits to see the site and chart its progress.

Other children are fascinated by trains, buses and trains so we will explore these as well as at the vehicles we can find on the construction site and what these special vehicles can do.

We hope this lovely sunshine stays with us, have a good weekend!

Help At Home ideas;

Talk about different materials in the home and think about why they are good for the job!

e.g waterproof jackets, brick walls, metal pots and pans, cuddly toys, windows…

Planning Overview

Every week, our Early Learning and Childcare (nursery) staff come together to talk about the children’s learning and plan experiences for the following week.  An overview of the plan is displayed in the cloakroom for all parents / carers to see along with a Help at Home bubble for suggestions on how to support and extend learning.

In response to our recent questionnaire, we are looking for ways of improving parental involvement and engagement.  As part of this, we are going to upload or planning overview and Help at Home ideas to the blog! This will allow parents / carers who do not do the daily drop-off or pick-up to keep up to speed with our current interests.

If you have further suggestions for how we can make you more involved in the life our centre, please fill in a suggestion slip, talk to a member of staff or comment on this post.

Many thanks,

The Early Learning and Childcare Team
